metaphasiaSo, I saw GotG over the weekend, and I really liked it, but it has left me very confused about the next movie. Because the first Avengers was heavily set up in the previous films, with Loki and the Tesseract being major plot points in Thor and Captain America, and all the heroes being introduced in previous films (well, Hawkeye only had a walk on in Thor, but everyone else got major screen time going in), I expected the same of Avengers 2. However, from what we know about Avengers: Age of Ultron, 1) Ultron will be in it, 2) so will Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. While the Maximoffs got shown in the sting at the end of Winter Soldier, they get no major screen time/introduction, and Ultron doesn't even get mentioned. In fact, the plot of the last several movies has been moving directly AWAY from Ultron, with Tony Stark reducing the size of his operations and getting rid of suits in Iron Man 3, and the opposition to the "oversight" Helicarriers project in Winter Soldier, and TOWARDS Infinity Gauntlet (pretty much every film since, and including the sting in Avengers, has been building towards this, with the introduction of the Infinity Stones, the reveal of Thanos, and idea of combining the stones now mentioned in GotG).
Which all leaves me very confused/concerned about Avengers 2, since it will have so much work to do not only with the inevitable action sequences and moving the cinematic universe forward, but also introducing the character that are going to be in the film.
So I'm holding out hope that, like the previous Marvel movies had code names in production (how Winter Soldier was called "Freezer Burn"), that maybe "Age of Ultron" is the code name for Avengers 2, and they're actually planning the biggest surprise twist in that it's not going to feature Ultron at all, and will instead be Infinity Gauntlet.
After all, we know Marvel can keep a secret pretty well after the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3.
Also, very disappointed with the sting. I mean, what. What were they thinking.
